A series of outdoor spaces designed to better utilise the outdoors in the unpredictable New Zealand climate. 

A new room adjoining the existing house provides a dynamic openable envelope, which can be opened or closed according to the weather and time of day. The underutilised triangular corner was repurposed to include a 10m pool and deck, with uninterrupted access to the sun for the majority of the day. 

The client approached us to make some interventions to their not so old family home, in order to better utilise the outdoors in the unpredictable New Zealand climate. A series of outdoor spaces adjoining the existing house provide a transition to the outdoors. An outdoor room provides an openable envelope, which is sometimes open, sometimes closed, depending on sun, wind, temperature, and time of day. The underutilised triangular corner was repurposed to include a 10m pool and deck, with uninterrupted access to the sun for the majority of the day.
